Not only is this banjo strikingly beautiful, but it plays and sounds wonderful.Lots of power ! Eastman has introduced this fine Whyte Laydie banjo replica and it captures the. That's why some of you have scarfed up several of these collector's items already. To you Lane collectors, you already know what I am talking about. Comes with original hardshell case, wrench, and custom made Sully's padded leather strap. In the right hands, this thing is killer. I recently had Randy Wood in Savannah do some fret work and it plays flawlessly. Can't tell a thing unless you remove the resonator (see photo). The ONLY negative about this banjo is that someone shaved down a bit of the inside resonator wall in order to accomodate the top tension armrest.

It has a very nice feel.Ĭomes with a top tension armrest (looks like it was added later because the original armrest is included) and the original Oettinger tailpiece. The neck is just a touch wide, but very thin. The overall condition is excellent, the abalone inlay on the resonator and neck is exquisite, and the design of old Mephistopheles himself in the peghead is quite unique. Please check out my recent YouTube video: I replaced the Huber head with an old Remo Weatherking head and I feel the sound is a bit brighter. I bought it sight- unseen from Bernunzio's and was extremely happy to have found it and until I got my prewar, I played nothing else. I searched for an affordable Lane banjo for about 25 years before stumbling onto this one in March. If you know anything about Harry Lane, it is my understanding that he made less than 40 banjos in the 70's & 80's (although I understand he is starting to build custom, one-of-a-kind instruments today) and I fell in love with the Lane banjo after seeing Jimmy Arnold play his in the early 80's. However, I just acquired a prewar top tension flathead and a few things must now go. This is the second most powerful and great sounding banjo I have ever owned and I am going to kick myself for selling it. Rare Harry Lane Top Tension Model M, in Walnut, for sale.
